Nursing Home Rape Epidemic — Call your Congresspeople!

Please see this new CNN expose on the “nursing home rape epidemic”:

If you read this CNN piece on how this country’s elders and dependent adults are being raped and sexually assaulted in nursing homes and thought — “If only there was a law that limited the amount of pain and suffering damages these elderly rape victims could receive after proving their case in court” — then H.R. 1215 is for you! The bill, introduced by Rep. Steve King (R-Iowa) (yes, that Steve King), would not only put an arbitrary cap on pain and suffering damages for these victims, but would eliminate every state’s elder abuse protection statutes, including California’s.

Instead, if you read the CNN article and thought — “This isn’t right, what can I do to help?” — the answer is to contact your federal representatives and demand they vote NO against H.R. 1215. Here’s how:

1. Send a letter to Congress online: www.takejusticeback.com/ProtectMyRightToFight

2. Call your federal House Representative. You can find his or her phone number here: www.house.gov/representatives/find

3. In California, call Senator Diane Feinstein at (202) 224-3841 and Senator Kamala Harris at (202) 224-3553.
